Backgammon

The game of backgammon has been played since the early days of the world throughout Egypt. The game was called Senet by Egyptians. However, the board and the rules of the game are very much the same. It is also believed that the Romans played a game very similar to backgammon. Many researchers believe backgammon is possibly the oldest game in the world, but this has not been confirmed.

Backgammon became very popular in the United States during the 1920’s. It was very common to find backgammon clubs and tournaments taking place all over the Nation. Backgammon has always been popular because it is very challenging, and takes a great amount of skill to excel at the game. Players learn about strategy and tactics while playing backgammon.

Learning to play backgammon takes time. It is a game for two players. The board consists of 24 triangles known as points. The triangles are divided into quadrants. Each player has a home board and an outer board. The two are separated by a bar in the middle of the board. Each player has a set of dice with the numbers 2,4,8,16,32,and 64 on them.

Each player rolls the dice, the number of the dice is the total number of points that person moves their checkers. A checker can only be moved to an open point. The player can combine the number of both dice and move a checker that many or use each die number separately, and move two separate checkers the number of points on each of the die. If a player rolls doubles, they move that number of points twice. Again, this can be the combined total of the dice or separate for each die. The winner of the game is the first to successfully move their checkers into the home board

Backgammon has been a very popular game throughout the world for thousands of years. Today, it is popular with the older generation. It is not uncommon to find it being played in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and senior citizens clubs. Many online gambling websites offer players the opportunity to play backgammon against a computer or other players.
